S — TAR (STORY TELLING AND READING)

This program was first introduced and initiated by Elizabeth Odle, Helen Clay, and Susie Davie in February 1990 at IPS school #26. It originally met in four IPS schools. The members of this committee read and / or tell stories to students in grades Kindergarten through Fifth Grade in selected schools or a regular basis, at least once a month. This committee also tells students something about black history makers at each session. It is hoped that a tutoring program can be initiated under this committee during the evening hours. The committee should be prepared to work with senior citizens as well as youth who wish to improve their reading and comprehension skills.
