A Powerful Coalition Speaking Truth to PowerNCNW is a national coalition of national organizations and community-based groups that represent national and community strength to the powers that be in the nation’s capital and in our communities. As a powerful diverse coalition, NCNW addresses the community concerns of African American women and their families with one unified voice.
NCNW is a respected and valued voice of advocacy. It is a creative force for positive change for African American women and their families in the corridors of power. NCNW affects national and local policies through advocacy by maintaining a “strong presence” in the halls where major decisions are being made and by monitoring and communicating the results. NCNW, for 67 years, has been called upon by and responded to Congressional and Presidential requests for input on the impact of proposed legislation and policies that affect African American women and their families.
NCNW is a vehicle for information exchange on “what works in effective program and advocacy strategies,” “how” and “where”; as well as “what is happening on key issues” and how grassroots efforts can best develop and support joint positions and orchestrated actions. NCNW maintains a strong presence in the nation’s capital through its headquarters at 633 Pennsylvania Avenue NW, midway between the White House and the Capitol Building.
NCNW is a central engine in the historic and future positive development of African American women within the Diaspora. Under the direction of women with futuristic agendas – Mary McLeod Bethune, Dorothy B. Ferebee, Vivian C. Mason, Jane E. Smith and Dorothy I. Height – NCNW, has effectively worked on every cutting edge issue of importance.
